Side-event strategy
Events & Field Marketing- Definition
- Side-event strategy is the practice of organizing or co-sponsoring smaller, exclusive events — dinners, cocktail hours, workshops, or off-site meetings — during major conferences rather than relying solely on the main trade show floor. Side events bypass the noise of the expo hall and give your team dedicated time with target accounts in a setting conducive to real conversation. The best side events are focused (a topic, a buyer persona, a geographic cluster) and measurable (pre-registered attendees, booked follow-ups, not attendance counts).
Why it matters
Side events convert at higher rates than booth interactions because the format selects for genuine conversation. A 20-person dinner where every guest is a decision-maker from a target account produces more pipeline per dollar than a booth where 80% of badge scans are from unqualified titles. Side-event strategy separates event-savvy teams from teams that just show up.
Example
A data enrichment company passes on a $50K booth at a major conference. Instead, they spend $15K on a dinner for 20 RevOps leaders attending the same conference. The guest list is sourced from an enriched attendee list, selecting only VP+ RevOps titles from target accounts. The dinner generates 8 qualified meetings — more than the company's prior booth generated for 3× the cost.
How Impossible Data helps
Impossible Data's attendee lists let you build the perfect side-event guest list: attendees from target accounts, filtered by seniority and role, for the conference your buyers are at.
