Field marketing
Events & Field Marketing- Definition
- Field marketing is the discipline of using in-person events — conferences, trade shows, executive dinners, local meetups — to generate pipeline and strengthen relationships. It is distinct from digital marketing (runs through online channels) and product marketing (message and positioning). Field marketing owns the logistics-and-data loop: choosing the right events, identifying the right attendees, orchestrating pre-event outreach, running the on-site experience, and measuring post-event ROI. The best field marketing teams look like event-driven revenue operators, not party planners.
Why it matters
Field marketing is the highest-touch, highest-cost marketing channel — and potentially the highest-ROI when done right. The average B2B company spends 15–25% of marketing budget on events. The ROI depends entirely on the data loop: which events your ICP attends, which sessions they go to, and whether you can reach them before, during, and after. Without that data loop, field marketing is an expense line.
Example
A field marketing manager owns a 12-event annual calendar. For each event: research attendee list (who is coming?), build a target account list for SDR pre-event outreach, coordinate booth staffing and executive presence, track badge scans and meeting outcomes, and report pipeline influenced per event. A strong event generates $250K in influenced pipeline; a weak one is cut from the next year's calendar.
How Impossible Data helps
Impossible Data powers the field marketing data loop: verified attendee lists for any US conference so your team knows who is coming, before they arrive.
