ICP-shaped filtering
ICP & Targeting- Definition
- ICP-shaped filtering is the practice of applying your Ideal Customer Profile as a set of inclusion and exclusion criteria against a raw dataset — conference attendee lists, purchased contact lists, or CRM records — so your team only works the accounts worth pursuing. The filter removes companies outside your target industry, headcount range, revenue band, geography, or seniority tier before the first touch. The goal is signal, not volume.
Why it matters
Raw data has no opinion about fit. ICP-shaped filtering is the step that turns a generic list into a prioritized pipeline. Without it, your team burns time, your messaging stays generic, and your meeting-show rate reflects the noise, not the signal.
Example
A company with an ICP of 'Series A–C SaaS between 50–500 employees' runs a 20,000-row conference attendee list through ICP-shaped filtering and gets 1,800 records that match. The SDR team works those 1,800 instead of scrolling through 20,000, and the reply rate triples because every touch lands on a relevant account.
How Impossible Data helps
Every Impossible Data conference dataset ships with ICP-shaped filters so you define your target once and export only the records that fit — before your team ever opens a spreadsheet.
