Buyer persona

ICP & Targeting
Definition
A buyer persona is a research-backed profile of the person who makes or influences purchase decisions — their role, seniority, goals, pain points, and evaluation criteria. Where the ICP defines the account, the buyer persona defines the person inside that account. A single ICP may have multiple buyer personas (economic buyer, champion, technical evaluator), and each requires distinct messaging and outreach timing.

Why it matters

Messaging that resonates with a VP of RevOps sounds alien to a Salesforce admin. Without defined buyer personas, your outbound copy tries to be all things to all people and lands with none. Personas let you write one email that feels personal because it was written for one person.

Example

For a data enrichment product, the buyer personas might be the VP of Revenue Operations (cares about data coverage and accuracy, needs a single source of truth), the SDR team lead (cares about reply rates and list quality, needs speed), and the Salesforce admin (cares about integration quality and dedup rules). Each gets a different email sequence and a different demo angle.

How Impossible Data helps

Impossible Data's datasets include contact fields — name, title, seniority tier, department — so you can segment your outreach by buyer persona from the first touch.
