Intent data
Intent & Buying Signals- Definition
- Intent data captures the digital research activity of B2B buyers — content consumption, topic searches, competitor page visits, review-site activity, forum posts — and surfaces accounts that are actively learning about a category or vendor. First-party intent data comes from your own site (pages visited, content downloaded, demo requests). Third-party intent data comes from publisher networks and data cooperatives that track research across multiple domains. Both have value; first-party is more precise, third-party is broader but noisier.
Why it matters
Intent data turns outbound from a spray-and-pray motion into a timing-optimized pipeline. Without it, you are sequencing accounts by total addressable market — with it, you are sequencing by who is actively looking. The risk is false positives: a surge on a broad topic ('data analytics') may mean nothing for your specific product.
Example
A field marketing team uses third-party intent data to see that 80 target accounts have been researching 'conference lead generation software' across B2B publisher sites in the last 30 days. The team prioritizes those accounts for their upcoming event outreach, knowing the topic is top-of-mind.
How Impossible Data helps
Conference attendance itself is an intent signal. Impossible Data gives you a structured list of accounts that showed up to learn — the highest-intent audience for your event-based outreach.
